[시선 詩仙]: Perspective uses the Korean word 시선 (“gaze”) and an underscore to represent how perspective shifts depending on who is looking, as well as when and where they are looking from. The work explores landscapes through photographs taken by members of my family—my father in Vietnam, my mother in Pohang, South Korea, my brother in Seoul, and myself in Philadelphia—reflecting our physical distance while emphasizing our emotional connection.
Each illustration is based on a photograph from these different locations, capturing landscapes shaped by their specific time of day and environment. The images are developed through three stages: line sketch, black-and-white rendering, and full color.
Inspired by the atmospheric visual styles of Hayao Miyazaki and Makoto Shinkai, the illustrations depict quiet landscapes that subtly convey themes of family, distance, and shared harmony.

Illustrations in order of: father, mother, brother, and my view.

During my co-op at the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences, I created a range of illustrations for both digital and print materials. The work included a motion holiday card, seasonal social media cover graphics, and illustrations for the AI@SAS website.
I also contributed illustrations for the Fall/Winter 2024 (Volume 19) issue of Omnia, the alumni magazine of Penn Arts & Sciences, including drawings of Penn’s Benjamin Franklin statue and a series of small spot illustrations for the article “Emergency Response.” These illustrations were designed to support editorial storytelling while maintaining a cohesive visual style across different platforms.
